Semester at the University of Wisconsin - Madison
I began my graduate degree at UW - Madison studying Education Policy. I began the program in January, with the hopse of being able to secure funding for the rest of my program; through the Spring budgets kept getitn gcut and funding was soon limited to doctoral candidates and I could not afford another semester of out of state tuition.
During my semester I took three classes:
EPS 412 - History of American Education
In this course we detailed the founding principles of public education and th eneed for an educated electorate. We then progressed through the development of education throughout the nation and how differnet societal occurences have affected public education. The final project was to write a literature review of a book dealing with the history of education that was not covered in class. It is attached below.
EPS 600 - The Globalization of Education
This class aligned the most with the NLGL's focus as we studied the climate around the world and how it is affecting the emergence of global education. The final element of this class was to write an article dealign with an interest involving the globalization of education; I chose to research how teacher training programs have changed to include this aspect of globalization. The final paper is attached.
EPS 740 - Classics in Education
Throughout the semester we immersed ourselves in three texts: Plato's The Republic, Rousseau's Emile, and Dewey's On Democracy. We read these books in the order written and had weekly discussion facilitated by the topics found in the readings and how these have still had a lasting impact our system of education. The term paper for the class was to read a book that we deemed was a classic in education and to then defend our position. It is attached.
